| Fashion + Inspiration | Something blue ...

Why did Carry Bradshaw carry a blue bird in her head?
We all know this little poem: «Something old, something new, Something borrowed, something blue, And a silver sixpence in her shoe.«

{Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw | Sex and the City}

Whether this is an old tradition or just a fun thing to add at your wedding story, let us see the beautiful meaning it has. It dates back to Victorian times and the costume is that if the bride carries all items on her wedding day she will have a happy marriage. Well ... happiness asks for much more, but that is not the matter! Traditions like this one are there to put tender details on our getting married. And, come on! Tender details are there to make us happy! So?

Just do it! The moments spent in getting the items together will be special ones, which we will surely remember forever. Let us think on special people and their special memories; think on our own special memories and built up the ones to come! Let us be traditional, or just dare, like Carrie did.

Something blue derives itself from the old proverb «Marry in blue, Lover be true«. The white wedding gown tradition is pretty recent! Blue was a popular color for weddings gown for centuries. Even in Roman times women would marry in blue because the color symbolized love, modesty and fidelity. We have always seen the blue part of this tradition as something very intimate, filled with purpose.

Well, that is why Carrie put a blue bird in her head. It was somehow weird ... but as she told then her friends, «I put a bird on my head«, for happiness we go so far. There are though some other less weird blue things, even very beautiful ones, we guarantee!
